What kind of worms are these and how do you get rid of them? They are eating everything in site. There are so many, the birds are sick of eating them.

A description would be helpful in making recommendations. A picture would be even better.

these worms are hairless and green catapillar looking. They hang by a silk thread and make webs like web worms. They fold leaves over and wrap themselves in web. They are not particular[ perhaps because there are so many] what type of tree or plant they invade. They are even cocooned in the corners of the eaves of my house with nothing to eat? They strip the leaves off all trees[we have mostly post oak] and are responsible for killing lower limbs. What do mature into? Are they in the ground? Appearently they depend on numbers because there are lots of them! :?:

Might very well be a cankerworm. Spraying a Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) product is what's usually recommended here by most people when they're bad. In numbers where the birds can't keep up with them, I'd try that first. Let us know how it goes!

EDIT: Actually Bt based products are recommended when the larvae are already doing damage to foliage, rather than "when they're bad" as I stated above.

Manuermasher,
Sorry I missed your off topic post and will move it over to PEST and DESEASE where you will receive more attention to your question.

Oh, and welcome to the DD bulletin board.
