anyone know about winged elm trees? have one close to my house (volunteer, about 5') but probably need to transplant it. Are they long lived or healthy trees (i.e. one the doctor would approve of?)

First it would be nice to know where you live as this can have a bearing on various questions you may ask.

Personally I like winged elms. Like you say, I wouldn't want it to close to the house. As far as age goes, I have not seen an age anywhere so I would probably throw 60-70 years average lifespan on the wall just to see if it sticks. It is a medium sized tree that grows to 50 feet (100 ft. in bottomlands but rare)

Be sure that wherever you transplant the tree to that it gets pretty good amount of sun and the soil is fairly well drained.

If you're referring to the elm I think you are, you can't hardly kill them in my experience, lol.
