Considering the mild winter to date, is corn gluten meal a good choice or would something else be a better for preventing/controlling lawn weeds his coming season? My location is Ellis County. For any recommendations, please indicate when to apply this year.

I think I remembering hearing Howard say on his program last Sunday that any time between Feb 15 and March 15 is the best time to put down CGM.

Absolutely CGM is the way to go, and the next 2 weeks is the ideal time. But be forwarned that the application now will control summer/fall weeds.

You will still get the spring stuff because they have already germinated... you just can't see them in force yet. You tackle them next year, ideally, by doing CGM in the last 2 weeks of Sept.

So, fall for spring, and spring for summer, and you'll never forget...

Wait for the last day of rain and put it down so that it can be dry for awhile.
