I found this neat item at Garden Supply and am wondering if ya'll think it will be a way to spread lava sand around since it will not work in my spreader. http://www.gardeners.com/sell.asp?ProdGroupID=18513&CMP=&IMG=34%2D375%5Fa%2Ejpg&DeptPGID=18241&lstCategory=0 It says that you can adjust the holes on the bottom to even dispense rock salt.

Looks like it may work. I wonder who the manufactor is? It may be possible to buy it locally, that way you can see it before you purchase it.

It might possibly work, but lava sand is pretty heavy stuff. I would not think that the weight of even a small amount and the twisting involved with the use of this device would be good for your body.

I think of these things more now that I have had experience with thinning cartilage which is not a fun thing. It kept me from weight lifting, gardening heavily, turning my compost pile, etc. for 2 1/2 months! These things happen as we get older, and from repitition of certain movements. (I'm only 38)!

You are right Nadine. I never thought about the weight of the sand. Maybe if she only uses a little at a time it will spread and the weight won't hurt her. We don't want to lose Christina, since she is a very important resource to this forum.
