Pomegranate season is upon us; it is just a short few weeks around Halloween. Pomegranates are delicious and full of vitamins and antioxidants. One of the best fruits available, and now is the perfect time to eat them to boost your immunity before winter germs and stress arrive. Of course, you can get pomegranate juice year round, but I believe eating foods in season as provided by nature is always best for our health (and the most delicious).

Some tips on eating pomegranates: You must get the pomegranate open and then you can eat all of the little red fruits (arils), seed and all. The easiest way to open a pomegranate is to remove the skin (down to the white pith) along the center of the fruit, from the stem all the way around it. Remove about a 1/2" wide path. I use a plastic kiwi fruit spoon that I received once at the grocery store. You need to remove a little more at the stem, down to the red berries. Then grasp a half in each hand and twist. It will break open so you can then remove and eat the red fruits.

This is my husband's favorite fruit since he was a small boy and now it is my two sons (age 9 and 11) favorite fruit. It is now one of my favorites too. We love to sit outside, peel and eat them. Though they splatter red juice, it does not stain badly.

I've never had any left after peeling one to try any recipes using pomegranates but here is an interesting website for those who are interested, http://www.pomegranates.org/recipes.html.

Anyone else have any good recipes or pomegranate stories?
