The Texas Rio Grande Valley may be the best birding location in the country. The wide variety of habitats attract many different species and several tropical species are near the edge of their northern range. It is also a good area for migrants, especially raptors, that can move through the area by the thousands.

A few photographs from a recent Valley trip are posted here.

Beautiful!

I grew up in Brownsville & my parents are still there. My mom spends quite a bit of time on the back porch, watching birds - the variety is amazing!
