I planted 2 different native pecan trees 6 or 7 years ago. Each year there are a few more pecans on them. This year there was maybe 50-60, but still none of the pecans are any good. The casing are all large and green (except for a few dead ones), but the inside are always shrivelled or just plain empty.

I have used unnatural fertilizers in the past, but not now. I have never used weed and feed. I've watered the base of the tree with a soaker during dry spells. I have never sprayed anything on the tree since I didn't have any pest problems (that I could see).

What am I missing? Is it sick or diseased?

It's been noted a lot in the last few weeks that this year for some reason has just not been great for pecans.

Best thing I can suggest, given that it used to get the old high-salt artifical ferts is to get it on the sick tree treatment. That's got to help its overall health and that should in turn yield better results in its fruit down the road.

Bonker,

 Don't know in what area you live. You may want to add some data to your profile. That way you won't have to add that info to each of your future posts.

Here in SA Tx. we've had a lot of web worms this year plus the wet weather has had a simular affect as yours.

Pecan that don't fill out normally relate to not getting enough water during june thru august. Spent 20 years in pecan management.
