I am interested in planting a palm tree in my back yard this fall but I'm looking for some info on how to make the best choice:

1. What are the best species to plant here in the DFW area? I really prefer the look of the more narrow, hairy-looking trunk variety. If you go to Taco Cabana or Joe's Crab Shack, you'll see some excellent examples of these. However, the Wasowski book seems to recommend only the Mexican (or Texas) palm with the really large looking trunk. I can see how the larger trunk might be more cold-tolerant which is a big concern up here, of course.

2. Where is a good nursury here in the DFW area to buy one from? Would it be smarter to go through a nursury down on the valley where they're native?

You can use a Windmill Palm. They have the hairy trunk and are the most cold hardy of all palms. There are a couple of six footers in a nursery in Red Oak called All That Grows the guys cell is 214-882-0249.
