I resodded my yard when I bought my house (April 2004) I sodded with Palmetto St Augustine. This strain loves heat & humidity. When I put down the sod I limed the soil and applied chemical fert. and a fungicide . I would like to go organic, but don't have a clue for my area. (Zone 8, SC) I'm starting to get small areas of dry spots. I watered alot at first and now I down to twich a week . I cut high and pull weeds as the arrive (very few) How much water is enough? We have very high humidity from June- Sept. Can anyone help with my questions?

How much water cannot be determined over the Internet. It depends on shade, soil, grass height, grass species, and sun. If your grass got watered twice a week and still looked dry, then you should have doubled the length of time you water and go until it looked dry again. I water for 2 hours per zone, once a week. My grass is in the shade, soil depth ranges from zero inches to 18 inches. Soil is based on white limestone rubble with some sand and "caliche." Several years of no chemicals has made the white soil pretty dark.

At this point, you should start out by reading the FAQ at the top of this forum. That will probably raise some questions for you and answer some. Write back after you've read it and let us know how we can help.
