People keep asking me what my favorite bird is. Seems like I have lots of favorite bird, which are kind of habitat based.

My favorite backyard bird is the Blue Jay. Lot's of folks think they are too aggressive, but they have some interesting behaviors (and are not really blue, by the way, they just look blue.).

Favorite beach bird is the Laughing Gull. Very common, but their loud calls always seem like a welcome to the sun and fun at the beach.

Forest or there abouts - The Barred Owl. Their calls are a hoot, and much more.

Open fields - the Northern Harrier. For some reason I really like to watch harriers swoop and sway, low over the fields, sometimes flashing their white rump feathers. An interesting hawk, females and young are brown, adult males gray.

I couldn't choose one, even with categories you've identified. I guess I'd have to say that my "favorite" is whichever one has captured my attention at the moment! (Especially if I'm trying to creep up on it with my camera.)
