Anyone have any experience with Mexican oaks in TX??

Not referring to Q. polymorpha(monterrey), but rather Q. Cambyi or any others.

Planting a few Q. Cambyi now and was curious if anyone has any input.

Thanks

Canby oak does very in San Antonio and also here in north Texas. It's a great tree and should be planted much more. I have some pretty good info on it in my Texas Trees book.

Which book has info on Q. Cambyi?? I have Simpson's book and Cox's book but they don't mention it.

I am giving a few a try in Austin and in Junction.

Thanks for the input.

Nate

His Texas Tree Book is the newest one. It's also on my Christmas list.

Interesting book. Just got back from the book store. There are a few trees in the book I have personally worked on as an arborist. Nice to see.

One in there was "cared" for by a company I used to work for. Although it is in the "what not to do" section of the book, the circumstances for why these practices were done to this tree were VERY unique. BTW, 6+yrs later and the tree is still there......and healthy. Maybe in spite of these practices and not because of them. Paving 99% of the dripline is always a problem.

Nice book thanks again for recommending it. Glad to see he pushes the point that a tree doesn't have to be gutted and picked of the finest dead wood to be healthy.
