I need some help identifying this plant! It's origin is South America; I'm not sure if it's a melon or a squash, when to harvest, or how to cook it. Any information or links to webpages about if would be greatly appreciated.

JJ:
have you found out what it was?

in this situation, i would plan a barbecue, and a couple of hours before the meal, i would pick the plant and slice in two....if it was a melon, i would chill it....if a squash i would grill it!

Sorry I never got back to you. I am now seeing this type of melon in the stores. Hope you got a chance to open it up and check it out.
