We have acquired a potted Japanese Maple, know little of its history except that it came with a very small root ball last weekend upon acquisition. It was also beginning to look dry.

We potted it in a large plastic pot, placed it in indirect sunlight on our front entrance breezway. We used a balanced potting mix and mulched the top.

We've been watering it every other day with about 1 liter of water. Still, it's drooping slightly more at the leaf, and I'm finding a few clusters of dry leaves this morning.

This is one of those feathery Maples--not sure if that helps. It's 4 feet tall. with this info can anyone suggest a better plan of action or at least provide a ray of hope?

Thanks!

1 liter of water every other day is probably a bit too much.

Let the soil dry out a bit more between 'cause is sounds like it might have a bad case fo wet feet.

Oh, no! And I thought this might be too little water...thanks for the recommendation. What do you make of the continued appearance of dry leaves and leaf tips? I'm completely foreign to caring for this type of tree (most trees, for that matter)--it's so beautiful and I'd hate to lose it, though. I really think there is enough root to enable it to drink, if it's that simple. Perhaps there's another issue at stake? I cannot identify any disease; there are no leaf discolorations or obvious injury otherwise.

Hope I can save it! Thanks for the advice, Ent!
