I am now so mad at Muenster Milling

A couple years ago I switched all my cats to Muenster. Within weeks of weaning them off previous food my favorite cat couldn't pee anymore. After weeks of trips to the vet, surgery, and lots of money he is now just fine. The vet told me to switch to a food with a low ph and good for urinary problems. I did and despite having three other males cats, males are prone to this problem, I didn't have another incident. Sometime between then and now I tried to get an answer about the Muenster cat food and if it was alright to feed to my cats with unrinary problems. They downplayed any problems and said it wasn't the food.

Recently I decided to try Muenster cat food again because it was sold closer to my home and I love the dog food. I was worried and the cats don't like it so only this last week were they totally on the Muenster. WELL....

A different cat now can't pee. He is miserable and this morning we are off to the vet. Is it the food? Hard to believe it's not. I wish they cared about this problem.

I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

On the first cat, was there blood work done to check for liver or kidney problems? What was the cat diagnosed with specifially? Urinary tract infection?, renal failure? Interested in finding out more since I'm going to once more try to get my dog switched over to Muenster food. Hope your cat's health problem is short lived and nothing serious. :(

I believe the condition is called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. It is a physical obstruction in the urinary tract. A blockage is mortal within a few days. Some contributing factors are food, specifically PH, and not enough water. I give distilled water to my cats because they like it best.

Don't worry about the dog food it is great. I have had three dogs on it for over four years and they are EXTREMELY healthy. The only problem seems to be with male cats.

Thank you for your concern. I just want to warn people and hope something is done. A really good cat food is hard to find. Vet bills are expensive and I'd rather put that in the best food possible.

I have a male cat that had two urinary infections and the vet said the next time he would have to have an operation "to make him pee like a girl cat". For some reason neutering males seems to promote this problem. I know I'll probably get lots of boos and hisses for this, but after the second bout of infection I started feeding all five of my male cats the Purina urinary ph food that you get at the grocery store and haven't had any problems since. I KNOW, I KNOW, it's not organic. But it fits my budget and works fine.

No boos or hisses here. Whatever you do to make your pet's quality of life better is good in my book. :)

Well the cat died. We are on vacation in Wisconsin and my sisiter was keeping him. He got worse and to try to save him and keep him just over the weekend was going to cost $1,000

We'd rather save two or three more cats on that money $$. So another victim of cat foods that don't measure up. Everyone will be back on the Purina like Pridgeon's.

Will Muenster change their food? This can happen over time with other foods too but seems to be rather acute with Muenster's. I wonder if that is because the food is actually very good for the system. I guess it makes the kidneys try to rid the body of too much built up junk too fast.

So I know, from experience the dog food is excellent. I had wanted to try the new horse feeds but now I'm leary. *shrug*

Well a big *wave* from Wisconsin.
