We have beds that accent our pool. We have planted sedum sperium that is red in the winter. The new growth is green. I really like it because it stays low. A small leaf clover has mixed in with it. Other than trying to pull up the clover what can I do? Do I need to find a thicker ground cover or do I just need to feed this one or will ever get thick enough to choke out the clover. The same type clover is in our front yard that even the St. Augustine grass hasn't choked out. Any ideas? Thanks...

Personally I think the clover is fine. Keep the soil healthy & the grass should choke out the clover in the summer. If you can't tolerate anything in your grass, you will have a never ending job of pulling it up by hand.

KHWOZ Thanks for replying. We have a really big lot on a culdesac. We have lived here for 4 years and I HAVE been hand-picking the unwanted weeds. Small clover that hugs the ground is impossible to hand pick. In fact we have dug up some of the area and planted grass only to have the clover invade the grass. We can't spend the money to sod it solid. I enjoy trying to pick, but the small clover is overwhelming. Our neighbor uses a chemical company that comes out and treats their bermuda and it is solid and no weeds. I guess I just need advice because my husband is ready to go back to the chemicals that he used at our other house. I dread the time the fire ants surface. Thanks for any positive imput.

Clover I can live with but the broad leaf weeds are taking over. We have been organic for a few years but my husband is also wanting to use chemicals. I am starting over with the BOP and really hoping this will be a better summer than spring. I need advice too.

Thanks, for replying,Chemaphobe. I will have to admit that the plants and the "weeds" are really healthy since we have started the organic method. The Lady Bug fertilizer is wonderful. Back to the clover. I am talking about the plant that has small round leaves and is a purple color. The runners are a very thin and dry and are purplish-red and run all in and around the runners of the St. Augustine grass. We tried the orange oil formula and the entire area turned brown. I am hoping that the St Augustine will perk back up. I will have to say our dirt is filled with biological life. I love the organic method and I think once we pass this plateau of weeds and the grass gets thicker we will really be happy. Let me know if anyone has suggestions...

What color are the flowers on your clover. Dutch white clover has white flowers. Other colored flowers indicate different kinds of plants with clover shaped leaves.

Also you might look for a Weed Hound tool at any garden center or box store.
