Well its not much longer now. Spring will be here soon. What can I do now to my St. Augustine to insure good green grass and the least amount of weeds.

Have you taken a soil test? If not you may be wasting time +money by applying materials that your soils has an excess of.
Many weeds are an indicator of excesses or deficiencies in the soil. Generations ago, farmers were able to determine what the soil needed by what weeds grew there. Acres USA sells a book that describes this condition.

You've activated my 'pet peeve' button by not mentioning where you live. It's hard to give a suggestion about timing without that key piece of info.

If you live in Canada, you can wait. If you live in South Texas, NOW IS THE TIME TO FERTILIZE with organic fertilizer. If you live in North Texas, you can wait a few weeks.

Once the grass starts growing, if the rain doesn't cooperate, you should water deeply and infrequently. Deeply means for an hour or more. Infrequently means go as long as your grass can stand it. That might be months or a few days. The idea is to work up to months, though. So check out your irrigation system if you have one to see that it is set to Manual and doesn't come on every day for 5 minutes.

Something else you can do now is to set your mower at the highest setting and sharpen the blade. This will deter most of the weeds and help develop deeper roots.
