I've got a big window on the side of my house (about 9 feet off the ground at the bottom and 25 feet off the ground up top).

I planted a Forest Pansy Redbud last February under this window. No growth in the Spring, very few leaves all Spring and Summer, and the webworms devoured the few leaves it had this fall.

I thought it would get a little more shade than it does, but the afternoon sun gets to it in the summer pretty good.

Question 1) Will it rebound? The tree hasn't done well in year 1, but it looks healthy (other than having zero leaves if that makes any sense).

Question 2) Would you cut your losses, move the redbud to a shady area and put a Fire Dragon Shantung there?

Anyone have any experience with a Forest Pansy redbud in near full sun?

Thanks...

They will grow in full sun but they just are that tough in general. The green redbuds are much stronger and I think they look better anyway. The Shantungs are good but the bigtooth is even better.

Also...

I've read a few posts on the Bigtooth vs. Shantung. In your tests, the Bigtooth has grown faster, correct? Any other differences?

They are faster than Shantung but trident and Drummond red are even faster and they are good trees too.
