I set out a fig tree that was about 5' tall year before last and it froze down to the ground. it came back this spring and produced 2 crops of figs. iS IT normal for them to freeze back. Is there any way to provent it. Should I mulch or what?

I'm north and east of you and my tree has not froze in the last 6 years. Do you know what variety you have?
Since you know it is prone to freezing, I would plant a better variety and enjoy the one you have as long as it lasts.

Celeste is the most cold-hardy of all Texas fig varieties.
