I live in Rockwall, Texas where the soil is a black clay! I have a good size back yard and Iwould like to plant a couple of big shade trees and then maybe some smaller trees..... Any suggestions on a tree that will grow fast? Thanks!

I lived in McKinney for 7 years. I planted a 4" Red Oak and to my amazement, it grew aggressively compared to a Live Oak or Post Oak. BTW, Post Oaks do not transplant due to sensitive root system.
I occasionally visit old neighborhood and the tree is huge with lots of shade and beautiful Fall color. I wonder if the amount of shade will affect bermuda grass underneath. Good luck!

Other good choices for that location would be Burr oak, Texas Ash, or Shantung Maple.
