I live on the corner next to a greenbelt area, where everyone in the neighborhood insists on stopping and letting their dog use my yard as a bathroom. Besides being illegal here (not picking the solid stuff up), there's a couple of spots where the dog urine is killing my grass. I'm talking 15-20 dogs per day here, at all hours (I can't just hang around the house and ask them to stop). I don't don't want to be a bad neighbor and stick signs up, but am interested in putting something on the grass that is harmless to the dogs and grass, that will make them keep moving instead of stopping as they cruise by woth their nose to the ground. Any suggestions? Ground pepper? Orange oil or citrus? They've killed about a 4-ft stretch of grass next to the bushes, and I want it to stop.

Get the cheapest, hottest, ground pepper and sprinkle it in the area with the problem. You may need to re-apply occasionally especially after rains.

thanks! I'll give it a try. I've seen that mentioned with other pests, but didn't know if it would work on a dog's sniffer.

The ground pepper will work very, very well with dogs.

Do you have an irrigation system? Maybe you can run the sprinkler a VERY short time once or twice a day to dilute the acid in the urine. Watch for signs of overwatering though.

You may want to do like apartments do. Remind people to clean up. Put a sign that reads, "Please don't leave doggie poo in yard." or "Your dog is cute but what they leave is not." Also, some apartments and city grounds have poo stations with a trash can and poopie bags.

Are you good at tech stuff. Install a survellience camera, or fake one, and set a sign that says a camera is watching. People are less likely to be "bad" if they know someone is watching.

Good luck! It is so refreshing hearing someone who wants to solve conflicts with intelligence instead of hotheadedness.
