Bought 3 yards of screened top soil. Added some Top Soil from Home Depot. Added patch N' Master grass which has all in 1 fertilizer, biodegradable soil, and seeds. Grass came out nice dark green after watering for 2 weeks..Now the dirt looks like cement and theres bald spots with grass turning brown!! Any reason for that? It hadn't seen water for 3 days straight, but thats it.

From what you are saying, I believe you bought mainly a bunch of junk. :( The all in one fertilizer is not good at all. It causes quick, weak growth. Please check the website for a cure to your problems. :D With the stuff you used, the water probably didn't penetrate the dirt to any depth at all.

I know. the home Depot Top Soil might be gathered from the bottom of the river. I might just redo in the fall. Its to hot to do it again..Probably the other cause of the grass dying...
Thanks

Sorry to tell you this but the top soil you get in most of the stores is mostly like the alkaline soil we have in north Texas...too much clay! :? Try putting out some compost in that area - no more than 1 inch, or a liquid compost concentrate like what they have at most of the Lowe's stores in Texas. Molasses can be tremendously helpful. I've seen it used to grow turf in places where it hasn't grown in years. A light application might just do wonders. I use the liquid because it's easy and cheaper by area. Both of these methods would be ideal, but you choose what time, effort and money you want to expend. It wouldn't hurt to at least try to save the grass you have and if you use one of these methods, ou'd be doing something that will be beneficial even if you do end up reseeding in the spring. Good luck! :D
