I assume you're referring to Corn Gluten Meal as a pre-emergent. No, it is not too late although a lot of weeds have already germinated. It will get the plants that haven't germinated yet and will at all times be a great fertilizer. Next year try to use it earlier for more benefit.

Thanks for your quick response. I am somewhat concerned since what I am reading indicates that if I put it down with weeds that are sprouting now, it will basically become a fertilizer for them.

My husband and I pulled weeds all last weekend and got the majority of them, but there are still some in the back area. I was afraid that putting it down this late would not give me the weed protection in the fall.

Thanks again. I'm off to the feed store.

First of all we need to know where you live. If you live in Brownsville, then yes, it is too late. If you live in St Louis, maybe you still have time.

For weeds you see growing right now, chances are those weeds sprouted last November and have been lying in a near-dormant, prebud state since then. The time to apply CGM for spring weeds is in October/November (for most of us).

CGM going down now is for use against crabgrass and summer annuals. If you don't have a crabgrass problem, forget about CGM. Putting it down now will definitely NOT give you any protection in the fall. I'm not sure what you're getting at with that issue.

Thanks for the information. I am in Carrollton, north of Dallas. I have a little crabgrass, but nothing crazy. I do plant annuals so I will put some CMG down for that.

The weeds that I have been battling last weekend and this weekend are unbelievable. Some of them look like carrott tops, some like a "timid" crabgrass - softer leaves and no flower and the little clover weeds that are kind of magenta (female description of all that stuff).

Have been "copying and pasting" information from the forums to try and figure out a schedule. My yard is a typical subdivision lot in which I have put in several flower beds, the largest ones in the backyard. I have always had numerous pots of flowers on the patio and fed them weekly with Miracle Grow with beautiful results. Have been using a commercial lawn care company and was overrun with fire ants last year. In trying to figure out how to get rid of them, I have been converting to organics. Am worried about how my flowering plants will perform without the Miracle Grow stimulation, but don't want to poison my ground anymore. Am starting to get more worms, which is encouraging.

The weeds are a concern for me as I have never had this many before and want to make sure that I am doing whatever I can to reduce the number of them (in addition to digging them up).

So once again, thank you for the information.

I'm guessing the unbelievable weeds you have now are wildflowers.
