I have a Scotts Easy-Green broadcast spreader. Does anyone know what setting it should be on to spread CGM at 20lb. per ft^2? Any advice would be highly appreciated. -Ziroth

Broadcast (rotary) spreaders are not the best choice at all for spreading organic fertilizers, esp. CGM powder. The path they cover is inconsistant and it varies with the speed you walk. Walk slow - small throw. Walk faster - bigger throw. And in all cases - where's the overlap?? And in all cases - no drop directly below the rotary disc, so are you SURE you covered that area on the walk back??!!

A drop spreader is far more accurate, cost effective for the product you want to drop, and provides much more uniform coverage. Spend another $35 for one of them and sell the other or give it away.

And for CGM, I set my Scott's drop spreader at 8-1/2. You want the grass blades to have a yellow layer on them after you pass over. Then, water it in and leave it to dry.

The best thing I've found is to weigh out 20 pounds of material and then measure off 1,000 square feet. As long as all the measured product goes on that 1,000 square feet, then you're good to go. The spreader setting doesn't matter at all except to hurry up the process.

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone.

Bill: Do you have an Accugreen or just a plain Scotts drop spreader?

The plain drop spreader and it's always worked well for me.
