Has anyone noticed the mass of worms or caterpillars on the sides of some trees in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? I caught a bit on the news the other day and yesterday saw them up close on the TCU campus. I did not have the ability to take a picture but one of the network news channels had one and it was the same creatures. They suggested using BT to kill them but I was told Orange Oil would be better. So, good or bad? Treat or leave alone? Thanks!

BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) will work against caterpillars, blocking their ability to digest leaves that they are eating and killing them. But something like Bt can kill butterflies if broadcast so it must be applied carefully. The orange oil will also kill the caterpillars (and anything else it hits) in a sprayed on application in a diluted form.
