I have 3 little trees that showed up on an empty flower pot. I have not been able to find any books with leaves like this.

However, I did find a tree with a leaf like this about 5 miles away from my house, but I'm still unable to identify the tree. There were leaves on this tree like this leaf as well as some of them had pointier points to them as well.

Can someone help identify this? If it is a Cottonwood, I will just compost them, if it's a Redbud, I will plant it in an appropriate place. Or is it something else all together?

Here is the link of the Unknown Tree Leaf:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmm... not sure at all. It's not Oak, Ash, Elm, Birch, Willow, Rowan or Maple. I don't believe it's either redbud, cottonwood, dogwood, hackberry or even pistache.

I'll have to look into it.

Anyone else recognize it, chime on in.

Could it be catalpa? The stem & shape seem okay but I'm not sure about the serrated edges on the leaves.

Can you tell us what the bark on the tree looks like? That helps in identification.

That is a cottonwood (Populus deltoides)

If you want to double check, here is a link to a descriptive page on cottonwood.

Hmm, I didn't think the end was tapered enough to be cottonwood, but it just might be.

Hard to tell without seeing more to the texture, or in fact without seeing the tree itself.

Good call Leslie

Yes, Leslie is correct. That link you posted is the exact leaf of my mystery tree. Now, I know what I'm going to do with it.

Thanks for the great reference link to tree identifications. I will use it for future identifications.

Thanks again!
