Found an interesting article comparing different beers results on attracting an killing slugs, but now I can't remember where it was.

They normalized everything around Budweiser, so it scored a "1" and all other brands were in relation to it.

Michelob scored a 1.05 and some malt liquor scored 1.14. Other than that most other beers were around .80, and the light beers did the worst.

-----------

So I put out a few trays of Budweiser last night, and awoke to 30 dead slugs and one empty tray that I think my neighbor's dog drank.

I have been thinking about using beer for slugs....what type of tray did you use? Wonder how Lone Star would work, since I drink Bud Lite and hubby drinks Lone Star. Hum....

My father told me that you can use beer to kill slugs. At the time I lived in Houston and decided to test the theory with a plate of beer left on the back porch overnight.

Results: 18 dead, bloated disgusting slugs, floating in beer.

It was so nasty. I wanted to hurl.

I've noticed a lot of slugs around my garden and decided to repeat the trial two nights ago (Old Milwaukee -- the cheapest I can find), but I have had no success this time.

Not sure what's wrong. Do you think it's the beer? I don't drink, so I'm not that fit to judge.

I have resorted to one of the most organic pest controls around, which is finding them hiding under the cinders that make the borders on my raised bed and then smashing them with a brick.

Nasty...
Chris

I bought a stack of disposable aluminum trays (about 2" x 4" and 3" deep). I folded the edges down until it was about 3/4" deep.

Make sure that the slugs have a level path to fall into the beer. One of my trays was sitting up too high and none of them went into it.

I like beer, but I like good beer. Budweiser has one of the strongest, nastiest odors in my opinion, but I don't know about Old Milwaukee. Michelob smells like c*** too, so I'm thinking maybe the odor has a lot to do with attracting them.
