Hi!

I was a born and raised Texan. Grew up near Lake Whitney, went to college in Denton and lived in Dallas. My husband and I recently relocated to Hershey, PA. Organic gardening is nonexistent for the most part up here. They think organic gardening is throwing out mulch and cow manure.

I am looking for a good fertilizing regimen to follow for our lawn of KY blue grass. There's also a lot of weeds and dandilion in the grass. If anyone out there has any advice, pse tell me. I have put dried molasses on order, and the people at the feed store looked at me as if I had four heads.

I called the county extension agent for my county and they gave me references to places where I can get manure. PLEASE HELP!

cst0002,
I am suprised they don't know what Organics is, since Rodale's is located in Emmaus, Penn. Maybe the other side of the state. One thing I would recommend is to start a compost pile. Add all your kitchen scrapes along with the manure, molasses and grass clipping's, if you pick them up once in a while. I call that 'Black Gold' It does wonders for growing gardens and lawns. Humate and horticultural cornmeal are also very good amendments to add.
Hope this helps.
I am a Yankee in Texas land.

Don't forget there are several places you can shop online for organic products too. Check the business references section on this website and look for websites for your favorite old organic products too. Most will send you products. One you can look at for a general product selection is www.agorganics.com. Check it out. I KNOW there are organic gardening places & organizations up there. Even in Texas if you go in to some feed stores and ask about organic products they look at you like you have two heads and a tail. :?

Check around and find an organic gardening club or something so you have other people to "speak green" with! Otherwise, you can join a regular gardening club and convert them! In any case, you don't have to be lonely because we're here for you, sister!

Flip over to the Lawns forum and check out my FAQ for organic lawns. It's near the top of the forum. See what you think and then ask some more questions.

I'm not big on dried molasses. Wet molasses is a much better deal I think.
