My lawn is Burmuda/Tif and I found a half dozen softball sized patches of very dense blackish powder on the blades. At first I assumed some kids had thrown fireworks in the yard but the patches have returned after watering.

Any ideas?

Sounds like mold to me. If you want to get rid of it, use ordinary corn meal at 2 pounds per 100 square feet.
