The cold weather may have spurred a renewed interest in feeding birds. If you are new to the hobby, black-oil sunflower is the overall best choice.

Be a little leery of some of the seed mixes you see in grocery stores. Many are rich in milo or millet, ok for feeding sparrows or doves, but not the best choice for cardinals, chickadees, goldfinches and titmice.

I also like to feed suet. It attracts a large number of species, including birds like Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped Warblers.

I was kind of curious about that. I have used the fine black seed and a "mix" that I get from our local Walmart.
The pigeons and doves have taken over and I never see anything but them. I was wondering what I could do to bring in other types of birds and hopefully your advice will help.
