While aerating (pulling weeds) this last couple of weeks I noticed that there were not very many worms -- I did see a few. Also, I noticed quite a few snail like shells around the dandilions -- they appeared to be empty.

How do I encourage more worms? Are the snails a problem?

However, I did not see a single grub !!

THANKS.

I'm not sure we know enough to say anything.

Where are you located? Plano, per chance?
What grass do you have?
What weeds do you have?
How do you water?
How do you mow?
How do you fertilize?
Is your grass in the sun or shade?
Have you ever used chemical fertilizer, herbicide, or insecticide?

Yes, I live in Plano and use only organic supplies on the yard / lawn. We have the usual bermuda grass. We cut down 2 hybrid poplars early this spring and planted 2 Chinese Pistache (25 gal). Still have 2 poplars that will be cut down in 1-2 years. So the area that was most affected did get quite a bit of shade. I tried to mow it regularly but did mow too high. Now I mow at the next to lowest setting on the recently sharpened mower.

I only water when it really needs it -- never let it get too dry but don't use the auto sprinlker very often. I will have to make sure not to drown the new trees but also they should not get too dry the first year. I propably have turned on the water about once a month so far this year. At the hottest I only water twice a week.

I have mostly dandilions and a few thistles, also a few low growing weeds that have a very tiny blue flower and a little clover. I am not concerned about anything but the dandilions and the thistles which I have eliminated about 95% of so far this spring.

So..... about the worms and the "snails" ??? How do I increase the former and are the latter a problem?

THANKS.
