My experience with avocado trees would indicate that you would have to keep in in a container so you can move the tree indoors during the winter. Use a good organic potting soil with lava sand, don't overwater, and feed it occasionally with coffee grounds, used tea leaves or an organic fert. When you move it from outdoors to in (and indoors to out) slowly acclimate it to the new lighting conditions and you should have a nice little tree in no time. I hope this helps.

I was told to 'pinch' off the top once in a while to keep it from becoming spindly. This does make a prettier bush. I have one growing now & was away & didn't get it 'topped' & it is not doing as well as others have.
