We buy our bird seed in 20 lb bags and keep them in a metal trash can outside. Ants have invaded the can and the sacks of bird seed. How can we kill the ants without harming the birds?

Have you tried moving the can into the sun, and making sure the ant trail to the seeds stays broken? The heat and no future movement in, might be enough to clear out the ant population.

I mix DE in my birdseed if ants get in. Plus it certainly wouldn't hurt the birds if they were to ingest any of it.

Thanks for the suggestions! We'll try moving the can and then DE if that doesn't work.
