Hi,

I'm new to the forums :D . If this is a newbie question, please forgive me  .

I have a long asphalt driveway that my bermuda grass in invading. It's coming up through it everywhere and I need to remedy this. Will the vinegar solution work on bermuda grass? If not, are there any other methods I can use to kill it? Thanks in advance!

Shonda

Shonda,
Thanks for the question. Don't feel bad, thats how we all learn. Use 10% or 20% vinegar sprayed on the grass. It should kill it. It may take more than one application. I used the 10% on the grass coming up thru the cracks in my driveway. It took two applications but it worked. Be careful to not get it on the rest of your lawn because it will kill it as well. Spray on a day when it is not windy. Aslo check this link for more info:

Thank you so much! I will try it -- somewhere else now  . My dad has already RU my drive  . I'm just wondering now how long it will take to get that stuff outta my soil. He didn't do it behind my back or anything. I told him a few weeks ago that he could do it, not really knowing there was an alternative and not being willing to lose my $$$ driveway. I thought it was my last resort. I tried a vinegar solution (almost pure) last year, and it did nothing, and hadn't found an alternative online at the time. Perfect timing, he showed up with the RU before I could get any answers here and was almost done before I knew he was here. And.... part of the city street that he did is uphill from my veg garden. About 200yds. Will that be far enough away?

I feel this pit in my stomach now. I HATE chemicals! (I'm a bit of an obsessive sometimes. Right now I feel like my yard is completely ruined  -- please tell me it will recover).

Bermuda is very hard to kill all the way out. I've seen an overdose of compost kill it out as well as Round up.

I don't think the Round Up will hurt anything after a week or so. Howard thinks Round Up is the bane of the Earth, but I'm a lot more relaxed about it. I'm certainly not going to use it but I'm at least tolerant of those who do.

The "research" I've seen against Round Up was very flimsy. Apparently some Round Up was found in the water supply in Holland after filtering through the soil. There has been no follow up to the findings and no apparent harm to the folks drinking the water. The only written article was from a newspaper. Newspaper articles do not equal real research in believability.

Thanks David. I feel a little better now. I don't plan on making it a habit and would like to find something to use instead, but I don't wanna beat myself up over this one application either. However, the electric company driving up the highways with a tanker full of it spraying whole pine trees -- welllllllllllllllllllll can I beat them up  ?

Hmmmm. Compost overload huh?
