When a rocket returns from space the reentry process is characterized as a violent event of friction and heat. This is not unlike what occurs in families when mom or dad returns home from prison. Reentry can be a difficult time for every member of the incarcerated person’s family – especially the children. Friction will occur. Feelings of anger, jealousy, and regret will run rampant.

When the participants of the mentoring match receive news of a parent coming home the question is inevitably asked, “Does this mean the mentoring match must end?” On the contrary – this match needs to continue. This webinar, presented by Dr. Jeff Dorn, will explore why mentoring needs to continue through the reentry process and beyond.

Jeff Dorn, D.Min. is the Northeast Area Director for CAYM. Prior to coming to CAYM, Jeff served as the Program Director for the Shapes Mentoring Program – a mentoring ministry for children of inmates. He brings first-hand experience to this webinar and will share what he and others in the field have learned about successfully mentoring through the reentry process. PLEASE NOTE: much of what is covered in this session is also relevant to other mentoring contexts where reentry occurs. For example: military families and/or other occupations that have a parent away from the family for long periods of time.

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Webinar.
